Culina, AI Chefs & the Future of Work: Will Robots Take Our Jobs?
Posted by Sheela Rodrigues on 23-May-2025
Recently, a few friends reached out to ask about the potential impact of "Culina" – Elon Musk's personal Chef Robot – on Platesfull. With the rise of AI chefs, cleaning robots, and self-driving cars, many are asking: Will robots take over our jobs? Elon Musk’s rumored AI kitchen robot “Culina” sparked this question again—and here’s what it means for human workers and businesses like Platesfull.
We're undeniably in an era dominated by Gen AI and robotics, and trying to ignore this shift isn’t an option. From home cleaning (RoboRock) to autonomous vehicles (Tesla) and now cooking (Culina), technology is rapidly transforming industries.
Here’s my perspective:
1. Co-Existence is Key
Rather than fearing robots & AI, we need to embrace them as tools that can enhance our work. The future is all about synergy between humans and machines. It’s not about replacing jobs; it’s about working together and maximizing our strengths.
2. Continuous Innovation is Non-Negotiable
This also means staying ahead of the curve through constant innovation. We can’t rely on past successes – the world is moving fast, and we have to keep evolving.
3. The Power of Personalization
Despite the rise of AI-powered chefs, there will always be a market for personalized services. People still want customization, hand-picked groceries, and the ability to adapt on the fly. For example, recently at a party, a client asked our chef to whip up something for an unexpected guest with specific dietary needs. The chef quickly assessed what was available and created a perfect meal. That’s the human touch that machines may not be able to replicate immediately.
4. The Cost Factor
Elon Musk suggests the cost of Culina could be around $5,000, but time will tell if that’s realistic or if the price will go higher. Regardless, his entrance into this space signals a clear market demand and opportunity.
At Platesfull, we are constantly innovating to be ahead of the game but more importantly provide what the customer needs. Truly solve the pain point for the client which is about stressing when hosting party or stressing to provide the right meal to their family
The Bottom Line
You can’t simply aim to outdo your competition – you need to do it differently. As Steve Jobs once said, "You can't look at the competition and say you're going to do it better. You have to look at the competition and say you're going to do it differently."
Let’s embrace the future, adapt, and continue creating value in unique ways.
