Personal Chef – A Great Career Option You May Not Have Considered

Posted by Sharon K on 01-Oct-2025

During my high school years, I often found myself wondering what I should do with my life. Like many students, I bounced between ideas—maybe I’d join a bank, or perhaps become a teacher (which, by the way, is still something I’d love to pursue someday). Back then, computer science wasn’t even on my radar.

In fact, the first time I ever used a computer was to check my entrance exam results in Grade 12—with the help of my friend, Soumik Chakraborthy. Fast forward a few years, and I somehow found myself as a computer engineer, building software for major companies like PepsiCo, Tesco, and Visa.

Looking back, I often think: What if students had a chance to explore a career path before committing to it? Imagine the clarity and confidence they’d gain.

Lately, I’ve heard some of my son’s friends talk passionately about becoming Chefs. They love cooking and food, and dream of working in top restaurants and making it big.

But here’s the common misconception:
Most people think that getting into a restaurant is the only way forward with a culinary degree.

That’s far from the truth.

There are many exciting paths within the culinary world—like becoming a Personal Chef, Private Chef, or even a Culinary Coach. And while working in a restaurant kitchen can be a valuable experience, it’s also important to understand whether the lifestyle and pressure are the right fit.

At Platesfull, we believe in hands-on learning. We encourage aspiring chefs—especially those still figuring things out—to join our seasoned professionals at private dinner events. It’s a unique opportunity to learn the craft from the ground up, gain real-world experience, and most importantly, discover whether this is truly your passion.

And here’s the kicker:
Being a Personal Chef can be more than just fulfilling—it can also be financially rewarding. With just 8–10 well-paying events a month, it’s entirely possible to build a six-figure annual income doing what you love.

So if you (or someone you know) has a passion for food and a knack for cooking, don’t limit your dreams to just restaurants.

Explore the world of personal dining.

Learn. Grow. Cook.

And maybe—find your true calling in the kitchen.
