Why Work-Life Balance Still Isn’t Working for Women—And How a Little Help in the Kitchen Can Make a Big Difference
Posted by Sharon K on 03-Aug-2025
We talk a lot about work-life balance these days. It’s a buzzword in every HR policy, parenting article, and wellness guide. But the reality—especially for working women—is that balance is still a moving target.
I was recently reading an article titled “Work-life balance isn’t working for women. Why?” and it really made me reflect—not just as a founder, but as a husband and father.
The article put into words what so many women live every day: the constant juggling act. From work deadlines to meal planning, school drop-offs, doctor appointments, grocery runs, and everything in between—it’s not just multitasking. It’s mental load. And it’s exhausting.
Even in homes where both partners work full-time, research still shows that women carry a disproportionate share of household and caregiving duties. Things are improving, yes—but we’re not there yet.
Our Story: When the Load Became Too Heavy
When our daughter Zion was born, my wife Sheela made the difficult decision to pause her corporate career to take care of the family. We didn’t have a support system—no live-in help, no nearby relatives. It was just us.
I was putting in long hours at work. She was managing everything else at home. By the time I got back each evening, she was drained. And so was I. We weren’t connecting. We were just surviving.
She had left behind a promising career, and the emotional toll was building. It wasn’t just about work or home—it was about the overwhelming pressure of doing it all without help.
Eventually, we hired a cook to take over the daily meals and household kitchen chores. It was a game changer. Not just for our time—but for our relationship, our energy, and our well-being. One simple support shifted everything.
Why Platesfull Exists
That experience is one of the reasons Platesfull was born.
We realized that just a little help in the kitchen—the grocery shopping, the chopping, the cooking, the cleaning—can go a long way in restoring balance to a family’s day. Especially for working women who are constantly asked to “do it all.”
At Platesfull, our professional chefs handle everything in your kitchen so you can focus on what truly matters—your career, your family, your health, or even just getting 30 minutes to yourself.
We believe that:
-
Delegating is not a weakness—it’s smart living.
-
Outsourcing home responsibilities should be as normal as ordering groceries online.
-
And work-life balance shouldn’t come at the cost of burnout.
